About our Program
Our developmental “micro” soccer program offers children under the age of 7 an introduction to the game in an age appropriate manner. The focus of our program is to help your child develop a love for the sport of soccer. Introduction to the game and the fundamental skills of soccer will be joyfully delivered in a variety of fun activities geared to bring laughter, enjoyment, and the love of the game to your child. The Micro season runs weekly, typically 6 weeks in the spring and 10 weeks in the fall. Players are placed on coed teams and randomly selected to promote even teams and equal number of boys and girls as possible. Each team will hold a 30 minute practice session followed by a 30 minute game every Saturday during the season.
Most successful soccer athletes are successful because, at a young age, someone passed on a love for the sport. This passion is most contagious in a FUN environment that promotes the development of confident and creative players. The formula for creating this environment includes several key attributes:
Small-sided Games = More Touches; More Touches = More Skill; More Skill = More Scoring; More Scoring = More Confidence
4-Goal Games = More Goals; More Goals = Better Field Vision; Better Field Vision = More Creativity
No one wants to go out to a game and see their child touch the ball 2 or 3 times during the course of a game, especially at a young age. Meanwhile, the ‘biggest-fastest’ child will do all of the dribbling and all of the scoring. With a small-sided, 4-goal environment; the athletes will:
Get more touches on the ball; improving skill.
Score more goals; improving confidence
Go side-to-side on a field, not just up and down; improving creativity
This environment allows the game to teach itself. The athletes should ‘naturally’ develop the skills, confidence and creativity needed to be successful in the sport. With a cast of enthusiastic coaches and parents, how could the kids not have fun??!!
With the right set up, we can encourage our children to love the game with the understanding that not everyone will. However, if we have provided the best environment for our young athletes, they should at least walk away with some quality life skills.
